InspirAction |The Public Art Project
Through funding from Partner Tulsa, Tulsa Global District is recruiting artists to submit their credentials for an upcoming art commission.
The proposed project will be installed in the underpass/median/retaining wall area of the intersection of Highway 169 and E 21st St.

The Tulsa Global District is the most diverse community in Tulsa. The area has a significant Latinx community, including residents from Mexico and Central America. Additionally, there are a variety of Asian populations represented, including the Vietnamese and Hmong communities. This area of Tulsa has transformed into an entry point for immigrants over the past 20 - 30 years, and we want to use this public art project to highlight the diversity of the people living in the area, as well as make the place welcoming and livable for new Tulsans.
The subject matter of the public art installation must address the Tulsa Global District's mission to invest in the Global District by creating economic opportunities, fostering community building, and celebrating multicultural diversity.

For this project, we are inviting artists to submit a single document in PDF format. Please include:
Brief artist bio and current resume, including previous projects
Brief overview of experience with or commitment to cultural diversity of the Global District
A basic community engagement plan detailing how artist would include community voice in the final design of the installation
Images of up to 5 recent projects (up to a maximum of 3 images per project), including written description of the piece, size, location, and project cost
Names and contact information for two references
Do not submit concept proposals at this stage.

Artists or artist teams residing in Oklahoma with public art experience who have successfully managed and completed at least one public art commission on schedule and on budget.

A total of $20,000 will be awarded to the artists selected ($10,000 each)

Artists Selected: No later than May 15, 2024
Grant awards: No later than June 1, 2024
Community engagement and design development: June 1, 2024 - July 15, 2024
Final design completed: No later than July 31, 2024
Project review by Oklahoma Department of Transportation: August 1, 2024 - September 15, 2024
Art installation: September 15, 2024 - October 31, 2024
Mural completion deadline: No later than October 31, 2024

If selected to receive a grant, artists will be required to execute an Artist Agreement with Tulsa Global District. Among other items, the agreement will include the provision that artists grant Tulsa Global District an artistic copyright to promote, reproduce, photograph, or republish images of the completed murals.
